CyberGuard Corporation has announced that TOP-TOY A/S, the largest toy retailer in the Nordic region and the master franchisee for TOYS "R" US in Scandinavia, has chosen CyberGuard to secure their intranet, linking their head office to all 200 retail outlets across the entire Nordic Region.
TOP-TOY A/S looked to CyberGuard for a VPN solution that could be centrally managed and quickly deployed in all their stores and remote offices to enable them to take advantage of the higher bandwidth offered by ADSL to create a secure intranet. The challenge was to improve business performance and customer care programs as well as to reduce telecoms bills. All this had to be achieved by providing a cost-effective level of security and flexibility acceptable to TOP-TOY A/S.
TOP-TOY A/S created a secure VPN connection between the shops and their head office to create an intranet supporting the real-time update of sales and stock data, pricing information, email and web access. With the additional secure bandwidth they are now able to run real-time applications such as remote desktop, a time management system synchronised over the intranet between the head office and remote stores as well as a video based e-learning system for training their staff. This e-learning application has proven be of great benefit in delivering consistent, high quality service to their customers.
Andrew Clarke, Vice President and Managing Director, Europe of CyberGuard, said, "Companies have increasingly adopted the CyberGuard SG product line to secure their infrastructures creating effective, efficient and most importantly secure communications within their businesses."
"Following the success of the rollouts in Finland, Norway and Denmark the company has now implemented the same secure intranet solution in Sweden where they will also use it to provide a direct connection to CEKAB (authorisation of card transactions) via VPN instead of using an ISDN connection," said Christian Lysel, System Administrator, TOP-TOY A/S.
"We have implemented over two hundred CyberGuard SG firewall/VPNs in our shops and offices in Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. As the firewalls are powered by stable, secure and configurable firmware based upon embedded Linux, they were flexible and easy to install. Using a text file script, it takes one minute to install each appliance and no third-party client software is required. This has enabled us to implement a secure intranet with the minimum of cost and effort. Another key feature we required was the facility to allow remote users to be able to print locally while accessing applications over our intranet via the VPN. We looked at many different vendors appliances but only CyberGuard provided what we needed to meet all our objectives," said Christian Lysel. |
