Hacker Compromises Personal Info At UCCS PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 February 2006
A virus infected a computer containing Social Security numbers and other information on about 2,500 current and former employees of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, prompting school officials to warn them to guard against identity theft. University officials said Tuesday that identity theft did not appear to be the reason for the virus attack and that no one has reported their information was misused.

The computer contains names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses dating to 2004.

Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak notified university employees by e-mail Tuesday, after computer specialists analyzed the extent of the breach. School officials were asked to contact employees who have left the school since 2004.
