NEW YORK Whats in a name? Confusion if its an Internet worm.
A file-destroying Internet worm making its way to computers is being reported with various names, including "My-wife," "Blackmal," and "Kama Sutra."
The virus officially known as "C-M-E-24" has at least five other names, also given by computer security firms.
The moniker may seem much ado about nothing, but security researchers worry that the variance could confuse consumers who are confused about whether their security vendor offers protection.
The U-S Department of Homeland Security is attempting to unify naming through the Common Malware Enumeration, or C-M-E to bring the various names under a single umbrella. A Web site making that information public was launched in October. |
