Giving newspaper readers some credit PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 February 2006
Two Massachusetts newspapers owned by the New York Times inadvertently released the banking and credit card information for as many as 202,000 customers. The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette announced on Tuesday that the sensitive financial information was delivered with bundles of papers last weekend in Worcester. The accident is a result of using recycled paper containing private customer information, which made its way for use as routing slips in the delivery of the newspapers.

The papers are offering subscribers free credit monitoring services to help minimize the potentially devastating impact on individual credit ratings, should the information be put to ill use. The papers have also indicated to have already stopped recycling paper that contains customer data.
